Annie Dong (b. 2002, St. Petersburg, FL) is a Chinese American multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture, and installation. Her work explores themes of memory, migration, and cultural hybridity. Raised in China by her grandmother before returning to the United States, her artistic journey is shaped by experiences of displacement and what she describes as -memory dysphoria.
As the child of immigrants from Fuzhou, China, Dong examines the tensions between lived experiences and the ideals of the American Dream. Art became a vital language for her as she learned English, providing a means to navigate cultural disorientation and form her identity.
Dong holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Psychology from New College of Florida, The Honors College, where she graduated in 2024 and received the Margaret L. Bates Award for her undergraduate thesis. She is currently an MFA candidate in painting at Cranbrook Academy of Art for 2027. Her work utilizes layered imagery and vibrant color to reflect on memory, identity, and the construction of home.
